Eric Barton The Adventurist

There’s a biscuit in Macon called the Midnight Rider, stacked with fried chicken, bacon jam, and pimento cheese. It’s the kind of biscuit that makes you start listing the people who need to hear that it exists.

Which is a pretty fine analogy too for the restaurant scene in Macon. This is a city where there’s a new crop of quite excellent restaurants: a Spanish restaurant with an Ibérico pork chop on the wood-fired grill, a Cuban kitchen cooking from family recipes, and enough places in between to make choosing dinner a problem worth having.

This is, I’ve found, a city with a restaurant scene that deserves far more attention. Want proof? Here are 13 of the best restaurants in Macon right now.

Macon’s newest Spanish restaurant arrived in July 2026 with enough choices to derail anyone’s sensible plan to order just a few tapas. Start with Serrano ham croquettes and pan con tomate, then consider the shrimp-and-chorizo empanada with garlic crema and sherry reduction. The wood-fired grill handles an Ibérico pork chop and steaks sized for sharing, while a tuna crudo brings Marcona almonds and sherry orange into the mix. A glass of Spanish wine belongs somewhere in that decision-making process; so does leaving room for Basque cheesecake.

Best for Spanish tapas and a dinner worth lingering over

Braddock's Cask & Table Macon Best Restaurants

Braddock’s Cask & Table

At Braddock’s, the wine deserves as much consideration as whatever is going on the plate. The restaurant opened in 2024 with a scratch kitchen, a seasonal menu, and a co-owner who is also a Level II sommelier, which gives dinner a useful advantage over simply pouring something red. Mushroom risotto earned attention in a local review, but the broader attraction is a kitchen willing to move between culinary traditions as the seasons change. Regional wine-pairing dinners have been part of the appeal; check for upcoming events when planning a visit.

Best for A dinner planned around the wine

Dovetail Macon Best Restaurants

Dovetail

$$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

At Dovetail, the Southern vocabulary is familiar; the combinations are less predictable, with pork belly bites wearing Cherry Coke barbecue sauce and blackened redfish arriving with Carolina Gold rice, black-eyed peas, fried okra, and tomato broth. Begin with the put-ups, a spread that includes pimento cheese and bacon marmalade, then consider a pork chop with a sweet potato croquette and maple velouté. There’s also a vegetable plate with cornbread and honey butter, because a serious dinner needn’t require a steak.

Best for Southern cooking with a few welcome surprises

Gangnam Grill Macon Best Restaurants

Gangnam Grill

$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE

Gangnam Grill opened in January 2025, turning the former Ninja restaurant into a Korean spot with a particular interest in fried chicken. The chicken bowls come double-fried and coated in soy garlic, sweet-and-tangy, or sweet-and-spicy barbecue sauce, which is already a respectable amount of decision-making for lunch. There’s plenty beyond the fryer: bulgogi japchae, bibimbap with a fried egg, and ramyun bowls that can bring together dumplings, rice cakes, mushrooms, and noodles. Finish the argument over what to order before somebody discovers the bingsu on the restaurant’s dessert lineup.

Best for Korean fried chicken and a table of things to share

H&H Soul Food Macon Best Restaurants

H&H Soul Food

$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

H&H has been feeding Macon since 1959, and the friendship between its founders and the Allman Brothers gives breakfast here a little extra history. The Midnight Rider biscuit supplies a more immediate reason to show up: fried chicken, bacon jam, and pimento cheese, all in one order. For a larger commitment, the Red Dog puts fried chicken, collard greens, and a poached egg on an open-faced biscuit with sawmill and red-eye gravies. Cheese grits are available on the side, should any space remain on the table.

Best for A Southern breakfast with Macon music history

J. Reid’s Macon Best Restaurants

J. Reid’s Tavern

$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

A tavern with board games and potpie has already made several good decisions before you arrive. J. Reid’s opened in 2026 with a menu built around the owners’ home-cooking favorites, from chili and meatballs to lasagna and a Cubano. The room accommodates a meal with the family, a snack at the bar, or cocktails on the back porch, which helps when everyone in the group has a different definition of going out. Order a few small plates or commit to something from the oven; the cards can settle who gets the last bite.

Best for Comfort food, cocktails, and an unhurried group meal

Kudzu Seafood Company Macon Best Restaurants

Kudzu Seafood Company

$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Kudzu brings the Gulf Coast to downtown Macon, starting with oysters grilled over an open flame with garlic-lemon butter and Parmesan. The jam pups deserve consideration, too: shrimp-and-sausage jambalaya balls coated in cheddar panko and fried, with remoulade for dipping. A grouper po’boy on a Gambino’s French roll keeps lunch straightforward, while the red snapper royale adds grilled shrimp, tasso cream sauce, and Creole rice to dinner. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the rooftop Wheelhouse gives a group somewhere to continue after dinner.

Best for Gulf seafood and a rooftop finish

Natalia's Macon Best Restaurants

Natalia’s

$$$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Natalia’s has been a Macon dinner occasion since 1984, and the current menu gives you plenty of reasons to dress for one. Burrata arrives with port-wine-poached pears and candied pecans; the beef carpaccio gets artichokes, fried capers, and horseradish cream. Butternut squash ravioli comes with brown butter cream, fried sage, and toasted macadamias, while Dover sole is filleted at the table with lemon-white-wine butter. This is among the city’s more expensive meals, so give the menu some time and make the evening the plan.

Best for An Italian dinner for a special occasion

Oliver's Corner Bistro Macon Best Restaurants

Oliver’s Corner Bistro

$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Oliver’s covers lunch, weekend brunch, and dinner in a downtown bistro with soft lighting, cozy seating, and personal touches that include a Maconopoly board above the bar. It’s an easy setting for a sandwich midday or a longer evening over pasta and wine. Lunch brings a pastrami Reuben on butter-toasted marble rye, while brunch makes a convincing argument for strawberry shortcake French toast with sweetened cream cheese and strawberry compote. Come dinner, start with tempura cauliflower in chile-peanut sauce, then move to rigatoni Bolognese with beef and Italian sausage.

Best for A downtown lunch, weekend brunch, or relaxed dinner

Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen Macon Best Restaurants

Piedmont Brewery & Kitchen

$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Piedmont treats the food as a reason to visit the brewery, with smoked wings that lead the menu, followed by brisket, pulled pork, and smoked chicken available in sandwiches that range from barbecue to a bánh mì with pickled veg. The game room gives the meal a second act, and the beers come from a local operation that has been brewing in Macon since 2017. Start with the wings, debate a lager or an IPA, and finish with enough time for another round of games.

Best for Smoked wings, local beer, and dinner with the family

Tenmii Japanese Eatery Macon Best Restaurants

Tenmii Japanese Eatery

$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Tenmii is a reminder that a Japanese lunch doesn’t have to begin with a sushi order. The menu centers on rice bowls, including pork chashu braised for 36 hours in shoyu and chicken donburi with a ginger-yaki sauce. A curry bowl brings potatoes and carrots, while mazemen takes the brothless route with udon noodles. Add gyoza or a rice ball if choosing one bowl feels insufficient, then carry on with the day. With most bowls in the low teens, it’s also a useful counterweight to the city’s more expensive dinners.

Best for Japanese rice bowls and an affordable lunch

Vida Latín Kitchen Macon Best Restaurants

Vida Latin Kitchen

$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Paula and Ernesto Aguirre opened Vida in March 2026, bringing recipes from Paula’s Cuban grandmother to a menu that also travels through other Latin traditions. The sensible beginning is loaded tostones, with shredded ropa vieja, cheese, chimichurri, and pickled red onions piled onto fried plantains. After that, consider the slow-roasted mojo pork or ropa vieja simmered with tomatoes, onions, and peppers. Rice and maduros keep the meal firmly in comfort-food territory, while a guava-and-cheese pastelito offers a small, persuasive reason to postpone whatever was supposed to happen after dinner.

Best for Cuban family recipes and a long dinner with friends

Yollah Macon Best Restaurants

Yollah Social Kitchen & Garden

$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Yollah’s Latin-leaning menu includes beef, chicken, chorizo, and vegetable empanadas, alongside Cuban rolls, patatas bravas, and pinchos of chicken, steak, or shrimp. A wood-fired grill also handles lamb chops, and paella gives the table another direction to consider. The garden is part of the appeal, but there’s enough on the menu to keep the food at the center of the night.

Best for Shared plates and a meal in the garden
