Wood-fired pizza in a garden, crab rolls beside the harbor, and a tasting menu that puts the Mendocino Coast on the plate.

Mei Chen The Adventurist

In Mendocino and along the nearby northern California coast, dinner can begin with sourdough and sea lettuce butter, a piece of Spam wrapped in nori, or a biscuit under mushroom gravy. The village gives you plenty of places to eat between walks along the headlands, while the coast adds crab rolls in Fort Bragg and a tasting menu in Elk. New arrivals such as Floyd and Connie’s join restaurants whose menus keep changing even when the buildings have been here for a century. These are my 12 picks for eating well in Mendocino right now.

The Brickery Cafe Beaujolais Mendocino Best Restaurants

The Brickery

$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

The brick oven behind Café Beaujolais began turning out bread in 1990; pizza became the main attraction in 2017. Today, The Brickery sends thin-crust pies into the garden, where children and dogs are welcome and lunch can stretch into another glass of wine. A margherita keeps things to tomato, mozzarella, and basil, while the sausage pizza adds housemade fennel sausage, pickled Fresno peppers, onions, and olives. Order at the counter, find a table among the plants, and give the afternoon very little further direction.

Best for Wood-fired pizza in the garden

Cafe Beaujolais Mendocino Best Restaurants

Café Beaujolais

Inside an 1893 Victorian farmhouse, Café Beaujolais puts French cooking alongside ingredients and ideas that travel considerably farther. The changing dinner menu has included beets with mole negro and queso fresco, mussels with nduja and Castelvetrano olives, and duck confit over white beans with guanciale and figs. Housemade pasta appears in an eight-hour Bolognese made with beef and pork from Magruder Ranch. The restaurant has been here since 1968, but there’s plenty on the plate to discuss before anybody gets around to the history.

Best for Duck confit and a long dinner

floyd and connies Mendocino Best Restaurants

Floyd and Connie’s

$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

After several years of pop-ups, Floyd and Connie’s opened a permanent restaurant on Fort Bragg’s Noyo Harbor in summer 2026. Dark green walls and a deck facing the water set the scene for food that borrows from taverns and family dinners, then wanders off in its own direction. Sour cream and onion bread can lead to calamari with herbs, pickled Fresno peppers, and nuoc cham mayo. For dinner, the hanger steak comes with crispy potatoes, scallion butter, and horseradish.

Best for A harbor dinner at the newest opening

Fog Eater Cafe Mendocino Best Restaurants

Fog Eater Cafe

$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Fog Eater brings Southern cooking to Mendocino with a vegetarian menu that still leaves plenty of room for biscuits, gravy, and something fried. Hush puppies come with romesco, biscuits get shiitake and sage gravy, and deviled beets come with housemade cashew cheese, smoked paprika, and dill. The vegetable plate lets you build dinner around sides such as braised collards and baked mac and cheese, with the lineup changing through the seasons. Natural wine and a garden patio make it easy to settle in while somebody decides whether the table needs cornbread, too.

Best for Southern comfort food without the meat

Gnar Bar Mendocino Best Restaurants

Gnar Bar

A bowl of ramen or a piece of Spam musubi can make a useful break between Mendocino’s longer dinners. Gnar Bar covers both, along with sushi rolls, poke, and karaage chicken marinated in sake and mirin before frying. The musubi wraps rice and seared Spam in nori, with Japanese barbecue sauce, spicy mayo, and furikake along for the ride. Ahi poke comes with edamame, cucumber, and avocado over sushi rice; vegan ramen and tofu bowls give the menu several directions for a mixed table.

Best for Spam musubi, poke, and ramen

GoodLife Cafe & Bakery Mendocino Best Restaurants

GoodLife Cafe & Bakery

$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

GoodLife bakes its bagels daily, then gives breakfast enough options to make the first decision of the day take a while. A bagel and lox plate uses smoked steelhead with cucumber, red onion, and capers; the breakfast sandwich layers scrambled eggs, green onion, and cheese on sourdough, with a housemade croissant or bagel available instead. Later, the goddess bowl puts chicken or tofu over brown rice with garlicky greens, avocado, and toasted seeds. The pastry case supplies a perfectly adequate reason to order coffee after lunch.

Best for A bagel breakfast and something from the bakery

Harbor House Inn Mendocino Best Restaurants

Harbor House Inn

$$$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

In Elk, south of Mendocino, Harbor House gives twenty diners a view of the Pacific and a tasting menu closely tied to the surrounding coast. Chef Matthew Kammerer cooks with fire, steam, and smoke, drawing on seafood, nearby farms, and ingredients gathered locally. The sample dinner menu includes red abalone with rice and a sauce of abalone offal, black cod smoked over bay laurel, and seeded sourdough with cultured sea lettuce butter. Two Michelin stars supply the formal endorsement; a candy cap mushroom macaron supplies a more unusual ending.

Best for A tasting menu with the Pacific outside

Luna Trattoria Mendocino Best Restaurants

Luna Trattoria

$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Luna’s menu is a collection of family favorites from Northern Italy, complete with notes about which dishes belonged to somebody’s mother or grandmother. Among the homemade pastas, green ravioli hold spinach, ricotta, and Parmesan beneath butter and sage; another version holds porcini, ricotta, and Parmesan beneath a butter and mushroom sauce. Penne al Sangiovese combines sausage, onion, wine, and cream, while cioppino gathers clams, mussels, shrimp, and rock cod into a tomato broth. Take a table in the garden, then leave the argument about pasta versus seafood for another night.

Best for Filled pasta and dinner in the garden

MacCallum House, A Mendocino Boutique Hotel & Restaurant Mendocino Best Restaurants

MacCallum House Restaurant

$$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

The Victorian house supplies the setting, but the menu at MacCallum House gives dinner plenty of reasons to stay in the present. Recent menus have paired duck confit tacos with queso fresco, escabeche, and smoked habanero salsa, and fried chicken with jalapeño cornbread and chipotle honey. The changing menu also makes room for duck breast with a blackberry and pinot noir gastrique, or scallops with ancho butter sauce. You can build a meal from the à la carte list or let the kitchen take over with its five-course tasting menu.

Best for Duck, scallops, and a Victorian dining room

FV Princess Mendocino Best Restaurants

Princess Seafood

$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Princess began with women who fish for a living, then expanded into a market and a restaurant on Fort Bragg’s Noyo Harbor. At the restaurant, two outdoor decks face the water, and seafood comes from the company’s boat and its market down the street. The kitchen has no fryer, with grilled rockfish tacos and a Dungeness crab roll among the reasons to come hungry. Order at the window, find a seat outside, and add a local beer while the harbor carries on with its work.

Best for Crab rolls beside a working harbor

Terra Mar Kitchen SCP Mendocino Coast Lodge Mendocino Best Restaurants

Terra Mar Kitchen

$$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

At SCP Mendocino Coast Lodge in Albion, Terra Mar gives vegetables plenty of space on a menu that also includes local fish and meat. The summer dinner menu has included whipped butter beans, confit garlic, olives, and semolina crackers, or roasted eggplant with chermoula and crispy chickpeas. The seasonal menu might follow with tomato-infused fettuccine and ricotta salata, or the local line-caught catch with potato and celery velouté. Windows facing the ocean give you something else to consider between deciding on another small plate and ordering dinner.

Best for Vegetables and seafood with an ocean view

Trillium Cafe and Inn Mendocino Best Restaurants

Trillium Cafe & Inn

$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Trillium gives you a garden patio where well-behaved dogs are welcome and a seasonal menu that can make ordering take longer than expected. Squash and mascarpone ravioli with sage cream might start the meal, followed by the nightly local fish or a pork chop with forbidden rice and fig chutney. The vegetable dishes get their own attention, including gnocchi with pumpkin seed pesto and a changing assortment of produce. Save a little room for huckleberry and apple pie with vanilla ice cream; the dog can consult a separate menu.

Best for A garden dinner followed by huckleberry pie
