The Best of Shreveport Dining: 12 Restaurants You Can't Miss
By Kelly McMurtry
Shreveport isn’t exactly New Orleans, and honestly, that’s part of its charm. It’s got its own thing going—a little grittier, a little less polished, but full of heart. And that shows in its restaurants, where you’ll find places that have been serving the same dishes for decades alongside newcomers shaking things up. I’ve eaten my way through Shreveport, and what I found was a city that knows how to feed you well. Here are the 12 best restaurants in Shreveport.
Zuzul Coastal Cuisine
1. Zuzul Coastal Cuisine
Zuzul is where you go when you want seafood that tastes like it hasn’t traveled too far to get to your plate. The ceviche is zippy and fresh, and the blackened redfish will make you wonder why anyone bothers cooking fish any other way. The vibe is modern without being pretentious, which feels like a rare win.
2. Superior's Steakhouse
Superior's Steakhouse is what happens when old-school steakhouse tradition meets Southern hospitality. Tucked into Shreveport’s Uptown district, this place is all about indulgence—think thick-cut USDA Prime steaks, like the impossibly juicy 14 oz. New York strip, or the 24 oz. porterhouse that dares you to finish it. The trout amandine is a standout, buttery and nutty in all the right ways. Add live piano music most evenings, and you’ve got a setting that’s both classy and comforting. Their wine list, with over 400 selections comes in handy if you’re celebrating or just feeling fancy.
3. Fat Calf Brasserie
Fat Calf Brasserie brings a little French flair to Shreveport, and it works. The duck confit is crispy in all the right places, and the crème brûlée cracks with that perfect caramelized shell. It’s the kind of place where you’ll leave feeling like you should’ve dressed a little better, even though no one else seemed to care.
4. Rhino Coffee
Sometimes you just need a caffeine break, and Rhino Coffee is the spot. The lattes are frothy, the pastries are flaky, and the space is just cool enough to make you feel like you’re in the know. Grab a seat on the patio if the weather’s nice, and take a minute to slow down before heading to your next meal.
5. The Vintage
Sometimes you want a steakhouse that feels like it was plucked straight from a Rat Pack movie, and that’s The Vintage at Bally’s Shreveport. The filet practically melts, and the oysters Rockefeller are the kind of thing that makes you feel fancy even if you’re eating them in jeans. Bonus points for a wine list that’s longer than a CVS receipt.
6. Herby-K’s
Herby-K’s is the kind of spot where you can practically hear the ghosts of its 1930s patrons clinking beer bottles. The Shrimp Buster is their claim to fame, and rightly so—it’s buttery, crispy, and unapologetically messy. If you’re lucky, you’ll grab a seat at the bar and hear a regular telling a story that probably isn’t true, but you’ll listen anyway.
7. Marilynn’s Place
This former gas station now serves up some of the best Cajun and Creole food this side of Lafayette. The jambalaya at Marilynn’s Place tastes like someone’s grandma made it, and the beignets? Fluffy, powdered sugar bombs that’ll make you forget the ones you had in New Orleans. Go for the brunch, stay for the vibe—it’s casual, friendly, and feels like home.
8. Abby Singer’s Bistro
Tucked into the Robinson Film Center, Abby Singer’s feels like a secret you’re glad to be in on. The menu is small but mighty—the shrimp and grits are buttery perfection, and the burgers are juicy enough to make you forget every fast-food chain you’ve ever frequented. Catch a film upstairs afterward and feel like you’ve had yourself a cultured evening.
9. Orlandeaux’s Café
Orlandeaux’s has been serving Creole classics for over 90 years, and it shows. The gumbo is rich enough to double as a main course, and the stuffed shrimp is a local favorite that’ll leave you wondering why you’ve been eating unstuffed shrimp your whole life. It’s got that no-frills charm that just feels right in Shreveport.
10. The Seventh Tap
Okay, it’s a brewery, but hear me out. The food trucks at The Seventh Tap Brewing Project rotate, so you never quite know what you’re going to get, but it’s always good. Pair a crispy taco or a gooey grilled cheese with one of their IPAs, and suddenly you’ve got yourself a night. The outdoor seating makes it feel more like a backyard hangout than a bar.
11. Sushi Gen
Sushi Gen is unassuming from the outside, but inside it’s all about fresh, simple Japanese fare done right. The rolls are packed and perfectly balanced, and the sashimi is fresh enough that it could’ve jumped off a boat that morning. It’s a great spot to grab a quiet dinner and pretend you know anything about sake.
12. Chianti Restaurant
If you’re craving Italian, Chianti is the move. The pasta feels handmade, the marinara is just the right amount of tangy, and the tiramisu will ruin you for the grocery store version forever. It’s cozy in that way that Italian restaurants should be, with low lighting and tables that feel just a little too close together.
