The former railroad running through downtown now connects some very good meals, with more worth finding across this Indiana city.

Fishers has found a particularly good use for an old railroad corridor: giving people somewhere to walk between meals. Along the Nickel Plate Trail, breakfast at Café Patachou can give way to a seafood dinner at Tiburon, with plenty of time to work up another appetite in between. Elsewhere in this city just northeast of Indianapolis, a smokehouse brings Middle Eastern cooking to American barbecue, and independent restaurants give the newer dining developments some welcome company. The best restaurants in Fishers, Indiana, reward a little exploring beyond the first dinner reservation. These are the 12 best restaurants right now in Fishers.
1933 Lounge by St. Elmo

The St. Elmo shrimp cocktail comes with the sort of horseradish heat that can briefly clear your calendar, along with your sinuses. It’s the natural opening move at this Fishers District offshoot of the Indianapolis institution, where steakhouse traditions meet a menu that also leaves space for sushi and a lobster grilled cheese. Follow the shrimp with a ribeye or prime rib, or build dinner around oysters and cocktails. The lounge admits only guests 21 and older, which settles the babysitter question early.
Best for A grown-up steakhouse night with St. Elmo’s famous shrimp cocktail
AlBasha

AlBasha combines a Mediterranean restaurant with an international grocery, a useful arrangement if lunch leaves you wanting to cook something similar at home. Start with hummus or lentil soup, then move to chicken shawarma, falafel, or a kabob dinner. The menu accommodates both the quick sandwich stop and the table that wants to share several dishes, without requiring steakhouse money for either. It’s an everyday sort of restaurant, and that is very much the point: good reasons to come back should outnumber special occasions.
Best for Shawarma, falafel, and a grocery stop on the way home
Café Korea
$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM
The name sounds like a place for coffee and a pastry; the menu has other plans. Café Korea serves a substantial Korean dinner, from galbi and thin-sliced ribeye bulgogi to spicy kimchi soup and cold buckwheat noodles. Begin with a seafood pancake, then decide whether the evening calls for grilled meat or a hot stone bowl of bibimbap with beef, vegetables, and an egg. The breadth is the appeal here, especially for anyone whose understanding of Korean cooking could use a little delicious expansion.
Best for Korean comfort food beyond a single barbecue order
Café Patachou

Martha Hoover’s Café Patachou puts a serious amount of thought into breakfast, including cinnamon toast thick enough to have earned the nickname “Breakfast Cake.” The Nickel Plate location brings her regional café to downtown Fishers, where the trail provides a convenient plan for afterward. French-style omelets arrive with toast and arugula, while the Cuban breakfast puts an egg over black beans and rice with avocado and spinach-jalapeño pesto. Lunch has its own argument for staying: chicken salad or a waffled grilled cheese with tomato-artichoke soup.
Best for Breakfast before a walk along the Nickel Plate Trail
Chao Vietnamese Street Food

Chao gives you several perfectly reasonable answers to the question of what to eat for lunch, then complicates matters with fries topped with lemongrass pork. Start with spring rolls or pork belly bao before choosing a bowl of pho, a bún noodle dish, or a bánh mì. The house special sandwich layers Vietnamese meats with pâté, pickled vegetables, cilantro, and jalapeños; the pho selection runs from chicken to a beef combination with brisket and tripe. Those loaded fries may still find their way onto the table.
Best for Vietnamese sandwiches and noodle bowls without a big bill
FoxGardin Family Kitchen

Chef Jake Burgess’s FoxGardin Family Kitchen takes the all-ages approach its name promises, with a menu that gives the adults plenty to consider too. This is the Olio Road restaurant, separate from the original FoxGardin Kitchen & Ale in Fortville. Burgers, pasta, and a pork ribeye share space with fish tacos filled with hand-breaded basa, roasted tomato salsa, and chimichurri sour cream. It’s a useful middle ground for an evening when everyone wants something different and nobody wants to negotiate two separate dinner stops.
Best for A family dinner with something interesting for the adults
The HC Tavern + Kitchen

The HC Tavern + Kitchen comes from the same Huse Culinary family as St. Elmo, but its menu has a playful streak that extends well beyond steak. Begin with lobster “cargot,” baked with garlic butter and Havarti, or pimento cheese fritters with chipotle ranch aioli. Sweet tea fried chicken arrives with hot honey and horseradish mashed potatoes; the meatloaf combines Wagyu beef and pork under a truffle mushroom demi-glace. There are serious cuts of beef too, should all that comfort food somehow leave you unconvinced.
Best for A celebratory dinner that doesn’t require ordering steak
I Tre Mori
$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM
An imported wood-fired oven gives I Tre Mori a clear starting point, but pizza doesn’t have to be the entire meal. The Italian restaurant also makes room for pasta, bread, and a full bar, so a quick pie can turn into a longer evening without much persuasion. Keep the order simple with a margherita, or go toward pasta alla Norma with eggplant, marinara, ricotta salata, and basil. This is the kind of place that makes sharing practical: one person’s pizza is another person’s first course.
Best for Wood-fired pizza with a proper Italian dinner alongside it
Noon Smoked Meats & Steakhouse
$$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM
Brisket and hummus belong on the same table at Noon, the downtown Fishers smokehouse formerly known as Kanoon. The halal menu brings American barbecue into the company of Middle Eastern cooking, with smoked brisket and short ribs alongside baba ghanouj, falafel, and pastries filled with feta and za’atar. Start with a few of those smaller dishes, then order meat by the pound with smoked rice or bulgur and bread. A fresh mint lemonade fits the occasion, especially if the table has decided that sharing means ordering nearly everything.
Best for Smoked meats with Middle Eastern starters and fresh mint lemonade
Sangiovese Ristorante
$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM
Sangiovese gives Fishers District an Italian dinner built around dishes that don’t need an introduction, though the pasta choices reward a closer look. Linguine frutti di mare brings shrimp, calamari, mussels, and clams together in a spicy tomato sauce with garlic and white wine. Penne alla Emiliana takes a richer direction, with Italian sausage, prosciutto, and caramelized red onions in tomato and butter sauce. The family-owned restaurant has a second location at Indianapolis’s Ironworks, but this is the Fishers stop for a sit-down pasta dinner.

Thai Villa Cuisine
$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE
Thai Villa’s owner learned her cooking in Thailand, including courses at Bangkok’s Oriental Hotel and Blue Elephant, before settling in Fishers. That background gives you a reason to spend some time with a menu that stretches well past pad thai. Start with som tum, the green papaya salad with peanuts and a spicy dressing, then look toward seafood: hoh mok combines it with egg, cabbage, coconut milk, and curry sauce. Or order panang curry and let a familiar favorite take care of dinner.
Best for A Thai dinner that rewards exploring the seafood section
Tiburon Coastal Cuisine
$$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM
Tiburon brings a seafood-and-sushi focus to downtown Fishers, with the Nickel Plate Trail nearby and very little interest in behaving like a landlocked restaurant. The sibling of Monterey Coastal Cuisine in Carmel moves easily between the sushi bar and larger seafood plates. Blackened grouper comes with lobster risotto and Szechuan green beans; honey-glazed sea bass takes the miso-and-risotto route with lump crab and asparagus. It’s a strong choice when dinner calls for something more elaborate than the usual weeknight order, preferably with time for a cocktail.
Best for A seafood dinner that can begin at the sushi bar
