Kelly McMurtry The Adventurist

I’ve spent enough nights in Oklahoma to know the hotel choice matters here more than it might seem from the airport rental-car counter. A good stay can put you in a restored bank tower in downtown Oklahoma City, a 1920s Tulsa landmark, a Route 66 boutique hotel, a lakefront resort on Grand Lake, or a state park lodge where the day starts with water outside the balcony.

That range is part of what makes the state more interesting. Oklahoma has oil-boom architecture, serious downtown revivals, casino resorts, prairie towns, Chickasaw Country, and lakes that turn a work trip into something dangerously close to a vacation.

These are the best hotels in Oklahoma right now, from polished city stays that can absolutely become the highlight of the entire trip.

The Ambassador Hotel has the bones of a 1920s apartment building and the advantage of a Midtown address, which means restaurants, bars, and museums sit close. The setup includes The Chalkboard Kitchen + Bar downstairs and O Bar upstairs, where the skyline does a good amount of the work after dark.

Best for: A Midtown stay with a rooftop bar and built-in dinner plans

The Artesian Hotel, Sulphur Oklahoma Best Hotels

The Artesian gives Chickasaw Country a proper resort hotel, with 81 rooms, Sole’renity Spa, a casino, restaurants, and easy access to the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. It’s built for the kind of trip where the cultural center, the springs, dinner, and a spa appointment can all fit into one weekend without the schedule becoming a military exercise.

Best for: A Chickasaw Country getaway with spa time, gaming, and nearby nature

Bradford House Oklahoma Best Hotels

Bradford House began as a 1912 home and now works as one of Oklahoma City’s prettiest arguments for skipping the standard chain hotel. Owners Sara Kate Little and Jason Little filled the place with color, antiques, a restaurant, a bar, and an all-day café, so the hotel feels less like a place to drop bags and more like a house that learned how to host strangers properly.

Best for: A boutique stay with design, cocktails, and a real sense of place

The Campbell Hotel Tulsa Oklahoma Best Hotels

The Campbell Hotel, Tulsa

The Campbell Hotel puts 26 individually decorated rooms inside a 1927 building on Tulsa’s stretch of Route 66. The former Casa Loma Hotel has National Register status, Tulsa-themed rooms, and enough old-road personality to make it more than a convenient place to sleep between neon signs.

Best for: Route 66 travelers, Tulsa weekends, and boutique-hotel people

Colcord Hotel, Oklahoma City Best Hotels

Colcord Hotel occupies Oklahoma City’s first skyscraper, built in 1910, and still keeps enough original detail to make the history feel useful rather than decorative. The marble columns and vintage elevator doors give the hotel its spine, while the modern rooms, restaurant, bar, and downtown location make it an easy base for a first OKC weekend.

Best for: Downtown history, walkability, and a polished OKC stay

Fordson Hotel Oklahoma City

Fordson Hotel sits inside the former Ford Motor Company assembly plant in Film Row, a 1916 building designed by Albert Kahn. The property leans into art and scale, with 135 rooms, big windows, exhibition space, Mary Eddy’s Dining Room, and the satisfying feeling of sleeping in a building with a century of history.

Best for: Art, architecture, and a downtown stay with industrial character

Lake Murray Lodge Oklahoma Best Hotels

Lake Murray Lodge, Ardmore

Lake Murray Lodge keeps the pitch simple: 32 lodge rooms with lake views, private balconies, cabins nearby, and Oklahoma’s first and largest state park outside the door. I stay here for boating, trails, golf, fishing, the pool, the splash pad, and the basic pleasure of waking up close enough to the water that the day announces itself before coffee.

Best for: Lake weekends, families, state park trips, and easy outdoor days

The Mayo Hotel Tulsa Oklahoma Best Hotels

The Mayo Hotel, Tulsa

The Mayo Hotel gives Tulsa one of its great old hotel comebacks, a 1925 downtown landmark with restored grandeur and the Penthouse Rooftop Lounge high above the city. The rooftop was once the private penthouse where Elvis Presley stayed during Tulsa visits, which is not the only reason to book it, but it does give the cocktail hour a useful little charge.

Best for: Downtown Tulsa history, rooftop drinks, and Art Deco-era glamour

The National Hotel Oklahoma City

The National, Oklahoma City

The National turns the restored First National Center into the kind of hotel Oklahoma City did not always have: grand, historic, and fully awake again. The 1931 bank building now holds rooms, restaurants, bars, and The Vault, a cocktail bar set in the building’s former bank vault, which is exactly the sort of literal-minded hotel drama I’m generally happy to endorse.

Best for: A big-deal downtown stay with serious architecture

The Pioneer Woman Boarding House Oklahoma Best Hotels

The Pioneer Woman Boarding House, Pawhuska

Ree Drummond’s eight-room hotel in Pawhuska sits just a few doors from The Pioneer Woman Mercantile, the shop and restaurant that helped turn the Osage County town into a destination for fans of Drummond’s Food Network world. Each suite has its own personality, and the hotel adds the kind of extras that matter in a tiny property, including pre-arrival concierge service, Mercantile dining reservations, and complimentary wine and beer happy hour.

Best for: Pawhuska weekends and Pioneer Woman fans

Shangri-La Resort Monkey Island Oklahoma Best Hotels

Shangri-La Resort, Monkey Island

$$$$$ | MAP | WEBSITE | INSTAGRAM

Shangri-La Resort sits at the tip of Monkey Island on Grand Lake, with the kind of resort sprawl that makes sense when the water is the point. The property brings together lakefront lodging, championship golf, spa time, restaurants, pools, chartered yachts, and The Anchor’s games and simulator bays, which means the itinerary can run from respectable to sun-drunk without leaving the resort.

Best for: Family lake trips and resort-style summer energy

Tulsa Club Oklahoma Best Hotels

Tulsa Club Hotel, Tulsa

Tulsa Club brings a 1927 Bruce Goff-designed building back into service in the city’s Art Deco District, with 96 rooms, on-site dining, a rooftop terrace, and the kind of downtown location that makes Tulsa’s architecture part of the stay. It’s a good fit for travelers who want the city’s oil-boom glamour.

Best for: Art Deco fans, downtown Tulsa weekends, and a polished historic stay
